BORACAY
Off the western end of Aklan province, famous for its Ati-atihan
festival, is another internationally famous island: Boracay, which is
now, the No.1 tourist destination of the Philippines. Many call it
paradise island because of its beauty, roughly shaped like a dumbbell,
clear cool waters and a spectacular four kilometer long stretch of the
rarest, whitest and finest sand. Boracay is also well known for the
now very rare puka shells. Cottages of bamboo and palm line the beach
north to south. With approximately 13,000 inhabitants, the north and
south are hilly with elevations up to 100m above sea level, and are
suited for extensive hiking trips. Numerous intertwining paths and
trails may sometimes lead through tropical jungle and link the small
villages of the island with each other. It can be reached by plane in
1.5hours at Caticlan and you are just a boat away to a relaxing
holiday.
Rocky coast line, sand
beaches, and quiet bays with partly thick undergrowth inland –
professional windsurfers practice here at Bulabog and even carry out
their international fun board cup championships for years now.
The best part of the
island is its 4km White Beach, also called Long Beach by the locals.
It is situated at the west coast between the villages of the Angol and
Balabag, and some experienced travelers claim it to be the finest
beach in the world. The water is shallow here, and its sand brighter
and finer than most beaches in the archipelago. There are about 220
beach resorts with 2,564 rooms to suit virtually everyone’s taste.
There is accommodation of all types and price categories. Restaurants
range from the native fastfood stalls to establishments that would
satisfy even a gourmet. You can find Beer joints as well as bars
offering good company.
Everyday is a holiday in
Boracay – all you need to do is relax and enjoy. Whatever your fancy
is – sailing, snorkeling fishing or windsurfing, there is an endless
supply of things to do in Boracay. Over cool fruit shakes or palm
wine, people just simply stay on the white beach to see the sunset.
Restaurants abound in the island. From cheap meals to international
cuisines, you just simply walk in without reservation.
How To Get There
From Manila, take the 50-minute flight to Kalibo in the province of
Aklan, from where you travel another hour in land (via bus or jeepney)
to Caticlan. Or take the 80-minute flight straight to Caticlan,
visitors are asked to fill up forms regarding travel details. Then,
it's off to Boracay via outrigger boat. From Caticlan, 5-10 minutes
boat ride to reach the island and 1-2 hours if from Kalibo.
BOHOL
Bohol is famous for its Chocolate Hills where you can experience the
strange effect of sunrise in this mysterious landscape. Over the
Panglao island, the traveler has a choice of several beach resorts on
the famous Balicasag Island. This marine sanctuary offers divers
paradise, excellent diving and snorkeling spots, underwater sports,
cottages ideal for scuba divers and nature lovers, freshest seafood
cooked to your liking, whale and dolphin watching and a lot more.
Bohol has become a popular destination for tourists, as it is blessed
with natural wonders. The thrust of Bohol is eco-cultural tourism.
Ecology in the sense that Boholanos are able to exercise responsible
stewardship over the material things God has given us. They have a man
made forest of mahogany and mangrove trees, a sanctuary of the
tarsiers (smallest monkey), clean Loboc river, Hinagdanan Cave, among
other sights. The worlds smallest mammal and monkey – the Philippine
Tarsier can be found only at Bohol.
The
magnificent centuries-old Spanish churches in Bohol mark the best
tourist destination in Bohol. This is because it makes you feel like
reminiscing the past on the aspect of man’s relationship with God.
How To Get There
From
Manila, take a plane to Cebu, then catch a connecting flight or a fast
ferry to Tagbilaran City, the capital of Bohol. From Cebu City,
Tagbilaran can be reached by taking a one and half hour ferry boat
ride.

PALAWAN
Bordering the western side of the Philippines is PALAWAN - a
collection of more than 1,700 islands and islets that 250 million
years ago, were once part of Asian mainland..
The province takes
pride in its rich natural endowments - of lagoons, caves, white sand
beaches and limestone cliffs sculpted by wind and water, of a rich
wildlife that traces its origins to Borneo, of lush forest that rival
those of its regional neighbors in terms of biodiversity, and of its
crystal-clear waters with extensive coral reefs that host thousands of
species of marine life.
Dotting Northern Palawan
are enchanting islands and magnificent limestone cliffs, secluded
white sand beaches, and picturesque lakes and lagoons. The surrounding
clear waters are perfect for marine adventures such as snorkelling,
kayaking, sailing, and diving coral reefs and World War II wrecks.
Southern
Palawan, on the other hand, boasts of lush virgin forests where rare
flora and fuana thrive. It is also in this area, in the Tabon Caves
Complex, where human fossils carbon-dated to be 22,000 to 24,000 years
old, were found.

Palawan
